Scythe Master Class at the West Country Scythe Festival

June has arrived and thoughts are focused on the upcoming West Country Scythe Festival and Green Fair. The fair itself is on Sunday 14th June at Mulchelny in West Somerset, probably the biggest event in the British scything calender.

Once again, Philip will be co-teaching the Master Class that precedes the festival. There are still a few places left on the course, which runs Thursday 11th to Saturday 14th June.

This is a golden opportunity to improve and deepen your scything practice with three of the leading scythe teachers in the UK – Philip Batten, Steve Tomlin and Christiana Lechner. As well as for people mowing on their own land, it is also a unique opportunity for people managing teams of conservation volunteers to learn how to get them using scythes efficiently

Here is what course graduate Nicole Clough, Oxon Reserves Officer at Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust has to say:

“The tuition from respected and renowned scythe teachers on the Master class is invaluable. I came away with a far deeper understanding of the scythe and my technique, as well as the tools and course structure to teach others in a safe and efficient manner. It has revolutionised our team at BBOWT, and we now use scythes for a great many of our tasks.”

The course is available at the reduced price of £165, including meals. There is camping on site, or else you can find Bed and Breakfast in the locality.
