Phil’s Favourite Peening Tools
Getting properly to grips with peening, first with a jig and then progressing to a freehand anvil, was a pivotal moment in out scything journey.
Finally we had the tools and skills to sharpen scythe blades so they cut grass like butter!

The Standard Peening Jig Set
The peening jig is an accessible entry point into peening, both in terms of skill and price, and it is where Phil began.
It helps you learn the basic principles of peening and get a good result, whilst lessening the need for accuracy of hammering.
The Fux Deluxe Anvil Peening Set
Phil’s next step on his peening journey was to jig peen the blade then freehand peen the edge.
He encourages people who want to add extra refinement to their edges to do the same.
The edge is the easiest line to freehand peen so this method lessens the skill step up, whilst giving you greater control over the finish and the ability to achieve fine grass edges.
Whilst a more expensive initial outlay, the Fux Deluxe Bar Peen Anvil is Phil’s anvil of choice, with a high quality finish and less radius to the working face.
