After all that rain, the sun shone on us for our first Beginners Scythe Course of the season. In the morning, eight enthusiastic students learnt how to set up a scythe then practised mowing the grass in one of our paddocks, while our shetland sheep watched through the fence. After lunch the farm rang to the sounded of rhythmic hammering as everyone tried their hand at peening.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. It is really interesting to hear about other people’s land and gardens and their plans for the scythe. And with the sun set to shine for a few days, perhaps we will manage to dry the grass that was cut and make some May hay……..
I have a lot to learn, particularly about scythes, permaculture and computers. Keep up the good work if only for the sake of such as I.
