Picard Peening Anvil

£28.50

The anvil is used in”free hand peening”. It requires more practice to master then the jig but can achieve an even better result.

A good way to start with freehand peening is to use an anvil in combination with the jig; use the jig to complete the first couple of lines of peening then finishing the edge freehand with an anvil. This helps develop the hammer skills you will need to complete the entire peening process freehand.

The three videos below were recorded during Phil’s “Masterclass” on freehand peening at the Scythe Festival in 2011 and contain lots of information on the art.

Product Improvement

We are now getting these anvils supplied polished. They are so shiny you can see your reflection in the face! The finish is important because any dint or defect in the face of the anvil or hammer will be imprinted in the blade being peened.

We have a small number of unpolished anvils left that are reduced to clear. These are perfectly serviceable if you are are happy to shine the face with a piece of emery cloth or a rubberised sanding block. We also supply the Fux Deluxe Bar Peen Anvil – the Rolls Royce of anvils!
