Sharpening Stones and Holders

Keep It Sharp!

Scythe blades need frequent honing (sharpening) to keep the edge keen and cutting well.

You can expect to hone every five minutes (or less) if mowing grass.

Here are a selection of canoe shaped Sharpening Stones of a suitable grit for using on Austrian style (tensioned) scythe blades.

Scythe sharpening stones are used wet. A Stone Holder allows you to carry water to keep the stone wet when out scything.

They hang on your belt, which keeps your stone close to hand and encourages frequent honing.
